Created by Mario Behling and developed by Julien Lavergne, Walter Lapchynski, Redwolf, and Simon Quigley, Lubuntu is a free GNU/Linux distro derived from Ubuntu. It is part of the Ubuntu family, as an official Ubuntu derivative recognized by Canonical Inc. The distro is lightweight, beginner friendly, beautifully themed, and centers around the LXDE desktop environment. The default software repositories provide a large selection of software, and the distro has reasonable out of box hardware support.
